FEMA Floodplain Mapping

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has updated the Chester County Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM Map). This change will take effect on September 29, 2017.  As the FIRM map determines if property owners are required to purchase flood insurance, East Brandywine Township wants residents to be informed of these changes.  The Township cannot, however, make final determinations on whether or not a parcel is within a floodplain or if flood insurance will be required.

The Chester County Water Resources Authority and the Chester County Planning Commission will be hosting a FEMA Open House on Thursday, July 20 at the Chester County Government Services Center, Room 171, 601 Westtown Road, West Chester from 4:30 to 7:00 PM.  At this event, FEMA Staff will show property owners the revised floodplain boundary mapping and answer any questions you may have.

There are two ways you can review the revised map online.

  • First, you may select one of the three "panels" of the FIRM map that cover East Brandywine Township as shown on the bottom of this page.  For each panel, both 2006 maps and the new 2017 maps are available as links in the table below the map.
  • Alternatively, you can use the ChescoViews GIS tool made available by Chester County at www.chesco.org/2198.  The floodplain "layer" may be activated by clicking the "TOC" button once the map has loaded.
